What's going on in
4th grade?
Lots of exciting happenings in Ms. Vincent's 4th Grade Class!
We had a great turnout at Back to School Night on the 18th! In case you missed it, here is a copy of the document that explains how the policies will work in 4th grade. It covers grading policies and percentages, as well as a few reminders of school-wide changes from last year.
Things to Know in 4th Grade Structure 4th graders are making their way towards middle school! At Immaculate Conception, one of our goals when educating students is instilling responsibility and ownership in our students. In 4th grade, this is accomplished in several ways. We are using a guided learning model for Math and English/Language Arts this year, which means students are responsible for quite a bit of independent learning throughout the day. They are held accountable for making good choices for their own learning through grades and with reminders to stay on task. Additionally, students are allowed to select their own seats, as long as they are choosing a seat to do their best work. Standards and Curriculum At Immaculate Conception, we are using the Diocese of Savannah’s official standards for learning in all subjects. Specific standards can be found at the Diocese website, www.diosav.com. There are several different textbooks we will be using in class, but generally will not send student copies home. Grades In this class, students are held accountable for their best work in every subject. They are graded in Religion, Social Studies, Science, Math, and English/Language Arts (Reading), as well as in conduct/behavior every week. Students' grades are based on a variety of activities, not just tests/quizzes, and each category is weighted differently. Homework Students have homework every night from Monday-Thursday. They always have 30 minutes of reading to complete, and their reading logs must be signed by an adult. Additionally, they will usually have some sort of math practice sheet, and might have social studies, science, or religion homework occasionally. Study guides will typically go home several days before a test or quiz, but will definitely be home the night before. Students may also have incomplete classwork that they must complete for homework, but that is entirely up to your student and the choices they make in class. Reminders/Policy Changes from Last Year 1. Teachers may no longer warm items up in the microwave for students, nor may they warm anything up themselves. Please send students with a lunch that does not need to be heated. 2. Students are receiving grades in specials activities this year. 3. PE day is Thursday, and Mass day is Wednesday. 4. Students may bring a healthy snack to eat mid-morning. Please don't send junk food or candy, and your student may only eat what he or she has brought for themselves.
